Lions are people worldwide, 1.4 million in number, who volunteer time and effort to make life a little easier for those less fortunate.
The Lions of District 22-C serve Washington D. C., and Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George's and St. Mary's Counties in Maryland. The Lions of District 22-C have their own Eye and Tissue Bank where corneas and other tissue are made available for transplantation. They have their own camp for hearing and visually handicapped children and adults. They also provide camping opportunities for diabetic children. Lions throughout the District support leader dogs for the blind. They support a major research and development facility at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore - The Low Vision Research Foundation. Lions conduct many community based activities such a eyeglass purchases for the indigent, food baskets for those less fortunate, and the recycling of eyeglasses and hearing aids donated by the community. |
