Mission
The Lions Community
Outreach Foundation of Lions District 22-C is a
community based, not-for profit organization whose
primary objective is to prevent blindness through
sight-saving outreach programs.
Activities
Early detection is
the key to preventing blindness. LCOF conducts
health screenings, and secures financial assistance
for eye exams, glasses and sight saving medical
treatment. LCOF programs include Mobile Health Unit
Screening Clinics, Eyeglass Recycling, Low Vision
Aids and the Francis J. Garner Memorial Endowment
Fund. Our outreach activities include free vision,
glaucoma, and hearing screenings along with health
education presentations and the distribution of
informational material.
Why We
Exist
Lions recognize and
understand the impact that blindness prevention and
sight education has on the community at large and
especially among at-risk populations. Our ambitious
grassroot programs evolved through the official
Lions motto We Serve and the challenge
presented by Helen Keller to be "Knights of the
Blind."
How we are
Funded
LCOF partners with
organizations throughout the Washington
Metropolitan area that believe in sight
conservation and blindness prevention. Their
commitment along with foundation grants,
corporate support, memorial donations and local
Lions Club contributions make possible the
activities and programs needed to fulfill our
mission.
Service
Area
The LCOF service
area includes Montgomery, Prince Georges,
Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's Counties, as well
as the District of Columbia. Our activities take us
to many communities - from the District of Columbia
to Damascus to Leonardtown and beyond - where we
participate in health fairs, school and church
events, festivals, county fairs, and other
community functions.
